Hiroyuki Arakawa

Removing the disruptive nature of colour and infusing all that natural light has to offer, Arakawa’s signature technique captures the purity of his organic subjects in shades of white and grey on dense black lacquered backgrounds.

My work is both ephemeral and deep in its manifestation.

“My work is both ephemeral and deep in its manifestation.” Born in 1951 in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan, Hiroyuki Arakawa’s soul touching images leave an indelible imprint. Perhaps it is because of the deep spiritual connection that he pours into his frames or the gentleness of his Buddhist philosophy that permeates his lens, we are drawn to both the natural forms and the dramatic contrast which engages the viewer on a visceral level. His legacy collection “WHITE FLOWERS”, says Arakawa, “is the infinite reminder to us all of peace and a feeling that all is well with the world.” His fascination with earth elements brings a new collection, “CONCEPTUAL FLAME”, which masterfully interprets messages from the supernatural world through the unpredictability of fire, whilst linking form, emotion and chance. Playful and experimental, the outcome is entrancing.
